WiSP 2: Wind-assisted ship propulsion

In recent years, there has been a resurgence of research on wind-assisted ship propulsion. After a very successful first WiSP JIP, the follow-up project WiSP 2 has kicked off.

WiSP 2 focuses on the incorporation of wind-assisted ship propulsion in the regulatory framework (including EEDI, EEXI and CII), and on realistic operational conditions, including research into its impact on manoeuvring regulations. The aim is to show what kind of fuel savings and emission reductions shipowners can achieve, enabling them to make informed investment decisions and to ensure compliance with GHG regulations. Furthermore, recommendations for speed trials will be made.

WiSP 2 was initiated in cooperation with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and together with a large number of WiSP 1 participants. WiSP 2 will be the gateway to WASP adoption by the maritime industry and is still open for new participants. Interested?
