Led by HRH Prince Carlos de Bourbon de Parme, the assessment committee has installed Marcelien Bos – De Koning.

On Friday 6 September, during a festive gathering on sustainability platform SummerLabb during World Port Days in Rotterdam, the new Mayor of Jouw Noordzee was announced. The choice fell on former Olympic sailor Marcelien Bos – De Koning (Muiderberg).

From a top 3 of candidates, the assessment committee selected Bos-de-Koning, because it has the strongest connection with the sea (literally) and the most experience with the general public and the media. The assessment committee consists of representatives from Rijkswaterstaat, Deltares and ECN.TNO, with HRH Prince Carlos de Bourbon de Parme as chairman.

Marcelien Bos – De Koning is the successor of Mariken Betsema (Nederhorst den Berg), the very first Mayor of Jouw Noordzee (September 2018 to August 2019).

Regarding the importance of the North Sea mayor, HRH Prince Carlos de Bourbon de Parme, the committee chairman: “Now that we have completed the first (reconnaissance) year of the Mayor of Your North Sea (BVJN), it is time to speed up with a busy annual agenda. More media and event-oriented activities will ensure that we can tell the big story of our great sea in more detail. The North Sea is the place where energy transition will become visible and that it is a matter of good fitting and measuring, that may be clear. At least as important is that all those developments and the search for the right balance are also explained more and better. That is why the function of the BVJN is so important. I see the BVJN as someone who can share knowledge with the public and thus contribute to a broadly supported vision. ”

Mayor of Jouw Noordzee is a collaboration between SummerLabb and ECN.TNO.
